MUI Supper Club in North Bethesda, MD, is owned by IVEA Concepts, which also publishes MoCo WTF. This profile introduces its chef-owner, Andrew Huang, and the kind of evening he is building at Pike & Rose.

For Huang, the restaurant is a personal chapter. Leading the kitchen is part of the role; shaping the business as an owner is another. His vision brings a little Miami energy to Montgomery County, with Japanese food at the center of an evening that can include cocktails, friends, live music and performances on weekends.

His route to North Bethesda began well beyond Maryland. Originally from Taiwan, Huang gained hospitality experience in Japan and built a career spanning more than two decades. In Texas, he served as head chef at Uchiko Houston. Before MUI, he was executive chef at Michelin-starred Kōsen in Tampa, Florida.

The Michelin Guide names Huang as the chef leading Kōsen’s omakase and recognizes the precision of his cooking. That background helps explain the culinary focus he brings to MUI. Kōsen’s Michelin recognition belongs to the Tampa restaurant; this profile does not describe MUI as Michelin-starred.

At MUI, the menu gives a group several ways to begin. Robata and raw preparations sit alongside dishes for sharing. Lobster uni pasta brings together lobster, uni and lobster dashi cream. Miso-glazed black cod comes with corn and peas. These dishes are examples from the restaurant menu, rather than a promised sequence at the omakase counter.

The six-seat counter offers a different way to spend the evening, with a chef-guided experience and a closer view of the cooking. A regular table gives guests room to choose individual plates and share. Our best advice is to choose the format around the evening you want, then check the current menu and reservation arrangements with MUI.

The room is part of Huang’s supper-club vision. Curved wooden booths, warm lanterns and an illuminated stone bar frame the meal. Friends can settle in over shared dishes; couples can combine dinner with cocktails. Weekend live music and performances add another reason to make an evening of the visit, with the current program confirmed through the restaurant.

Making the most of a night here starts with the food and leaves room for the social side. Huang’s aim is to bring more of Miami’s supper-club spirit to the DMV while giving guests a kitchen they want to return to.
