Rockville's most anticipated Hunan opening: Nong Geng Ji
The New York-based Hunan specialist Nong Geng Ji is opening its first Maryland location at 1701 Rockville Pike in The Shops at Congressional Village, taking over the former 7-Eleven space that closed December 24.
Nong Geng Ji, a New York chain known for traditional Hunan cooking, is coming to Rockville with its first location outside New York. It will open at 1701 Rockville Pike in The Shops at Congressional Village, in the space a 7-Eleven left when it closed on December 24 after about ten years there.
The chain opened its first U.S. restaurant in Flushing, Queens, in January and has a 4.6 Google rating from more than 450 reviews. Its kitchen, led in Flushing by chef Guohua Feng, cooks countryside-style Hunan food: bold flavors, fresh peppers, aromatic dishes and wok-charred cooking.
The best first order is the Stir-Fried Pork with Chili, one of the signature dishes. The others are Stir-Fried Pork with Abalone & Chili, Stir-Fried Free-Range Chicken and pressure-cooked ribs. Many plates come family-style, some over tabletop warmers, so the most fun way to eat here is with a group.
No opening date has been announced yet.
