Mai Khao: Gaithersburg's most anticipated Thai relaunch

Siriwan Thai's Gaithersburg location is closing after 10 years to reopen as Mai Khao, an elevated Thai restaurant with a modernized menu and tropical atmosphere. The reopening date has not yet been announced.

After 10 years, Siriwan Thai's Gaithersburg restaurant is becoming Mai Khao. The restaurant at 12115 Darnestown Rd in The Shops at Potomac Valley has closed temporarily for renovations, which a staff member at the Germantown location said should take about three or four months.

Mai Khao is named for Mai Khao Beach in Thailand and is described as a more elevated take on Thai food, under the theme "Bold Flavors, Mindful Moments." The best reason to go back will be the regional menu: bold Southern Thai dishes, herbal curries and refined Central Thai classics, along with refreshed signature dishes. A new drinks list adds handcrafted mocktails and a boutique wine selection, and the room gets a modern Thai tropical look.

Siriwan Thai's social media pages will become Mai Khao's, with renovation progress, menu previews and the grand opening date posted there. No opening date has been set.

The two other Siriwan locations are open: Siriwan 4 Sectors Thai at 20640 Seneca Meadows Pkwy in Germantown and the Silver Spring restaurant at 736 Cloverly St in Cloverly. They are the most convenient places to get the current menu in the meantime.
